Overview

The Academic Resource Center offers interactive and hands-on events and workshops during most semesters to help students develop successful learning habits and strategies. This page introduces ARC’s signature programs. Please note that not every program is run every semester. To view upcoming events, please check DKU Engage or the UG Advising WeChat account.

Designed by the Academic Resource Center (ARC), the Academic Success Program (ASP) provides students with information and skills they need to transition to college-level coursework and achieve academic success. In this program, students learn about campus resources and practical tips for navigating their college life. 

The program consists of a series of workshops on the following topics: 

  • Study Skills
  • Time Management and Procrastination
  • Stress Management
  • Communication Skills
  • Decision-Making on Major and Future
  • Know Your Professors

Each series consists of 2-3 systematic and comprehensive training workshops. 

The benefits of completing this program include but are not limited to: 

  • Develop academic skills to be successful in college.
  • Receive your ASP certificate and a pack of gifts.
  • Build friendships with your peers.
  • Build up your resume.

First Friday is a series on the first Friday of every session meant to promote connection between students and faculty members outside of the classroom. Each event consists of two parts:

  • Featured Faculty Talk – a DKU faculty members shares their academic journey.
  • Academic Success Workshop – hosted by the Academic Success Program, the aim of these is to provide practical academic skills to help DKU students be successful in the university.

By attending the First Friday event, students may learn about topics including but not limit to:

  • The DKU professor’s life story.
  • How the professors chose their major.
  • The challenges DKU professors have met and how they conquered them.
  • How they planned for their pathway after graduation.

Exam Jam is scheduled at the end of a semester to help students be better prepared for finals week. This is a full week event which includes exam planning sessions, review sessions and stress relief activities. The Academic Resource Center also provides toolkits for students to better plan for their finals and projects, as well as create their final study schedule. ARC partners with the Office of Student Affairs on De-Stress Fest and Writing and Language Studio on the Hunker Down and Write session in order to help students be prepared for final exams both academically and mentally.
