The Academic Resource Center announces the Outstanding Peer Tutor Award annually, to recognize and celebrate the positive impact of exceptional tutoring provided for DKU students.
These highly competitive awards acknowledge and reward an undergraduate peer tutor who has gone above and beyond in assisting students to help them become familiar with academic support and resources, and guide fellow students towards a successful transition.
In choosing the recipients, multiple criteria are considered, including tutoring skills, professional practices, interpersonal/human relations skills, and students’ nominations.
Hi, I am Jiayin Bian, a senior majoring in Political Economy/Economics. Over the past two years, I have worked as a peer tutor for ECON 101: Economic Principles, ECON 203: Intro to Econometrics, and ECON 204: Intermediate Macroeconomics.
I have always enjoyed guiding others to understand the logic and mindset behind economics. Whether it’s interpreting an econometric concept or clarifying the reasoning behind the macroeconomic models, I find it rewarding to support tutees as they gradually make sense of the material, solve problems more independently, and gain confidence in learning economics.
Tutoring has also helped me grow as a learner. Preparing for sessions and responding to tutees’ perspectives has sharpened my communication skills and allowed me to think more critically about the material. It has been a valuable part of my academic experience at DKU.
Hi! I’m Sean, a sophomore majoring in Applied Mathematics with a track in Computer Science. While my academic interests span across STEM fields—math, environmental science, chemistry, and bioscience—I’ve also greatly enjoyed serving as a peer tutor for GCHINA 101. Beyond academics, I’m passionate about sports like basketball, badminton, swimming, and skateboarding, and I’m also part of DKU Running Varsity.
GCHINA 101 could be intimidating at first. Yet after engaging deeply with the materials and connecting them to find the core spirit, I find GCHINA both fascinating and meaningful. Therefore, I’m passionate about helping others overcome their initial anxieties and master the course—it’s incredibly rewarding to see my peers leave every office hour with a smile! Supporting my peers while growing alongside them has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my DKU journey, and I’m proud to contribute to such a supportive academic community.
